Like FIFA Mobile last year, Retro Stars program returned for Season 2! During the program, you will have the opportunity to get popular players from past events such as Carniball, TOTY, TOTS, Lunar, Freeze and so on. Of course, along with the improved new version of many of these amazing players.
How The Event Works
You will have to play VSA matches using a squad with maximum of 90 OVR (I don’t know how long they will force us to use amateur squads and make our main squad more useless).
Win VSA matches (there’s no playing limit) to earn Throwback Points.
Win : 5 Throwback Points
Draw : 3 Throwback Points
Loss : 1 Throwback Point
Exchange your Throwback points for a Retro Pack (50 Throwback Points for a pack and max. 5 purchases every 3 days). This pack will award you Fame Points (25-200 Fame Points a pack, 25k Training XP and chance for a Program Point).
And lastly, exchange your Fame Points or Program Points (if you lucky enough to pulled it) for Retro Stars Offers. You need between 175-250 Fame Points (or 1 Program Point) to purchase a Retro Stars offer pack.
Here are the complete list of Retro Stars Offers :
- La Liga Rivalries (175 Fame Points)
- Freeze (150 Fame Points)
- Team of the Year (175 Fame Points)
- Carniball (175 Fame Points)
- End of an Era (200 Fame Points)
- Lunar New Year (175 Fame Points)
- Easter (200 Fame Points)
- Team of the Season (250 Fame Points)
- Versus Attack (200 Fame Points)
This program also give you chances to acquire a featured Retro Star player every week. You can exchange 200-250 Fame Points for an 90+ Exclusive Retro Star player.
FIFA Mobile 18 Retro Stars Tips & Tricks
For me this event is meh, because you have to grind a lot in vsa based mode (and honestly I’m tired of being stuffed with vsa, it’s not even pvp mode).
In addition, this event also depends a lot on luck, one of which I (and most of hardcore f2p players) hate the most.
But if you are willing to grind this event, these are tips and tricks that I can give you. Let’s check it out.
1. Win and dominate the VSA matches with this trick
Use a combination of bronze and master players to create an OP squad. Put bronze players in less important positions, and Master players (90+ or even better 95+ OVR) in more important positions.
Make most of players out of position so that the OVR squad goes down. The VSA matchmaking at this event is based on OVR, so there is no need to be afraid of lowering your OVR.
For example, I use the 343D formation. I put bronze players in LM, RM, CDM, CB (left) and CB (right) positions. Then I put my master players in ST, LW, RW, CAM, CB (middle) and Goalkeeper positions.
These are the results of my vsa matches :
2. Choose Retro star offers that contains tradeable players.
The goal is clear, to sell the players to the market (if you are not pulled retro star players). Unless you have favourite players in this program and no problem with the luck factor from EA, this choice is what I recommended.
Retro Stars Offers that contains tradebale, non-retro players are TOTY, TOTS, Easter, Lunar and Carniball.
3. Don’t spend all of the Fame Points, save it for Featured Retro Star Player Offer.Every Friday, you can exchange 200-250 Fame Points for a Featured Retro Star Player Offer. These exclusive players are not yet in the game but for your information, they are Robert Lewandowski (RF 97 OVR), Paul Pogba (CM 97 OVR) and Thiago Silva (CB 97 OVR).
This is an upgraded version of their Campaign Mode cards. Paul Pogba from the England Campaign, Lewandowski from the German Campaign and Thiago Silva from the French Campaign.
So for 200-250 Fame Points, you can get 90+ OVR cards of Pogba, Lewa and Silva (their Campaign & Retro cards as well as maybe their other 90+ OVR cards).
For me, this is the best deals because at worst, I still get 90 OVR cards for rank up purpose.
False advertising from EA. The image show a 90+ OVR player but they included their base version as well (below 90 OVR).
