The formation you choose for your team in the EA Sports FC Mobile (previously FIFA Mobile) can significantly influence your success in beating your opponent in Versus Attack (VSA), Head to Head (H2H), or Manager Mode.
However, it’s worth noting that a formation that works well in VSA may not necessarily perform as well in H2H and Manager Mode, and the same applies in reverse. Your choice of formation should be tailored to the specific mode of play.
In Versus Attack (VSA) mode, an effective formation is one where the first touch of the ball is relatively close to the goal. This approach increases the speed and likelihood of scoring opportunities.
On the other hand, in Head to Head (H2H) or versus AI Matches, a formation that is optimal for counter-attacks tends to be more successful. Why? We will explain it later.
In this post, we will cover everything you need to know about formations in EAS FC Mobile. We’ll present a comprehensive list of formations, guide you on how to change formations, and recommend the best formations for VSA Attack mode and Head to Head mode, among other things.

Best Formations in VS Attack Mode
In VS Attack mode, formations matter far less than the quality and performance of your players. What truly decides the outcome is how well your attackers, midfielders, and goalkeeper perform in one-on-one situations. Focus on building a balanced team with strong individual stats rather than worrying too much about specific tactical shapes.
For attackers, having a 5-star weak foot is extremely important. It allows them to finish from both sides without wasting chances, which can make a huge difference in tight matches. You should also prioritize pace, dribbling, and at least 4-star skill moves, since these directly affect how easily your forwards can create space and score. Avoid using attackers with 3-star weak foot or below, as their shots are often blocked or go off target.
Midfielders should have solid passing and shooting abilities, with a minimum of 4-star skill moves to stay effective during attacks. They play a key role in linking play and setting up scoring opportunities, so having midfielders who can shoot when needed gives you an advantage.
In VSA, defenders are not as crucial as they are in H2H mode. They don’t press aggressively like in full matches, so attackers usually have the upper hand. Instead of investing too heavily in defense, it’s smarter to focus on improving your attackers and goalkeeper.
For the goalkeeper, height makes a big difference, as taller keepers can cover more area and save difficult shots. The 1 on 1 trait is also very helpful, especially in close-range situations.
Overall, prioritize individual stats and abilities over formations. In VSA, skill moves, weak foot, and player quality decide the match far more than tactical setups ever will.
Best Formations in H2H Mode
The H2H meta has been different for quite a while now. Crossing has been nerfed for the past few seasons, while cut-ins and finesse shots have become the main ways to score. Because of that, the best formation now depends more on your playstyle than on using a specific setup.
Meta Changes
- Crossing is nerfed. It’s now more dependent on player attributes and defensive pressure.
- Cut-ins and finesse shots are dominant. Skilled attackers with high curve and shooting stats can easily score from the edge of the box.
- Defensive positioning matters more. Good shape and compactness often matter more than just having five defenders.
Recommended Approach
There’s no single best formation anymore. Instead, pick one that fits how you play and adjust your tactics to counter your opponent.
If You Face Cut-ins and Finesse Shots
Use narrow formations like 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 with low defensive width. This keeps your defenders close to block inside runs and finesse attempts.
If You Prefer to Attack with Cut-ins
Use inverted wingers or inside forwards who have high curve and finishing stats. Formations like 4-3-2-1 or 4-2-2-2 are great for this playstyle.
If You Still Face Wide Players
Choose defensive type fullbacks with Low/High work rate and use a CDM to cover crossing lanes. A 4-1-4-1 or 5-2-3 can still handle wide attacks effectively.
For Balanced or Possession Play
Try 3-5-2 or 4-3-2-1 to dominate the midfield and control tempo. These formations are flexible against both cut-ins and wide attacks.
Tactical Tips
- Defensive Width: Lower it to defend cut-ins, or widen it against crossing teams.
- Defensive Line: Drop deeper against finesse-heavy opponents.
- Fullbacks: Use defensive fullbacks with Low/High work rate if you prefer a solid, defense-first setup.
- Midfield: Always include one CDM or ball-winner to protect the defense.
In the current H2H meta, the key is flexibility. Don’t focus on one “meta” formation. Instead, adjust your tactics to match your playstyle and counter your opponent’s strategy. The era of crossing spam is over, now it’s all about smart positioning, tight defense, and precise finishing.
Best Formations vs AI Matches
Best Formations vs AI Matches
AI matches are generally easy to win, so almost any formation will work if your team has solid overall stats. However, if you want to dominate them efficiently and minimize mistakes, playing with a counterattack strategy (similar to Mourinho’s style) works best.
The idea is simple: sit deep, let the AI push forward, and hit them on the break using fast strikers or wingers. Since the AI often leaves wide spaces when attacking, countering with pace and direct passes can secure quick goals while keeping your defense safe.
Formations like 4-2-2-2, 4-3-3 Attack or Hold, 4-1-2-1-2 (Narrow or Wide), and 4-2-3-1 are great fits for this approach. They offer balanced defense and strong transitions from midfield to attack. Among these, 4-2-3-1 is especially reliable for players who prefer a stable backline, while 4-3-3 Attack provides faster tempo and width for counterplay.
In short, you don’t need a special setup to beat the AI, but using a formation built for quick counterattacks will make your matches faster, easier, and more consistent.

is there a way to change formation during a match ?
let’s say from 442 to 433 (if loosing) or 451 (if winning)
Unfortunately, no. We don’t have that feature yet.
424 is wrong. it has 2 ST instead of LF & RF
Can I use 343 for my team over 132
I continuing loosing h2h matches. I have better rated player. I tried my 100% . But, opponent get a chance to goal
Hi may someone can help me..im knew to this game and wanted to ask since a lot of different players and formations is it best to stick to a set of 11 players and improve them or have different players for various formations?..for example if i have a RW that can play as a RM I use hime for both 4-3-3 and 5-5-1 or i buy a RM…thanks for your help
I think it depends on the player’s OVR. I would say if it is below a 95 or 97 then use different because you wont really be able to find a lot of players that are good that don’t cost a lot of coins
Last month I used 3412 but wanna try 343 since Leon Bailey LW out with 122 pace and still I kept Orsic 90 with 116 pace. So is 343 also good for vsa?
Is it possible formations have changed? I can’t find 3-4-3 diamond formation.
yep i cant find it too
Any chance to update this to FIFA 20 curious about this thanks!
